Laertes
2006 American Warmblood stallion

2011 stud fee: $150
Booking fee: $300

Laertes is a kind young stallion making his breeding debut next year by shipped semen and live cover.  At 4 years of age, he is almost 17 hands (and still growing!) and right about 1350 pounds. He has a natural ability over fences that was apparent when he was only 12 hours old(!), and natural, automatic lead changes. He is very well bred, and a subtle eye-catcher. He is an athletic combination of holsteiner sport horse and racing thoroughbred, getting the agility and stamina from his thoroughbred mother and his poise and elegance for performance from his holsteiner sire.

Laertes is by the champion advanced level event horse and 4th level dressage champion Lancaster (holsteiner)
. Lancaster, who was imported from Germany in the 1990's, was twice the American Warmblood Society Horse of the Year and one of the top 5 inspection score producing stallions. Siblings of Laertes have gone on to compete successfully in many disciplines.  Lancaster's foals have the outstanding quality of a laid-back, easy-to-train disposition with an excellent work ethic and outstanding conformation. Lancaster's sire is the immortal Landgraf I, arguably the best warmblood jumper the world has ever seen.    Landgraf's offspring neared $7 million in earnings and Landgraf is considered one of the four holsteiner jumper foundation lines. Laertes inherited his sire's incredible poise, uphill balance, spectaular movement, and level-headedness.

His dam, Acka Baba, placed 3rd in the Mocassin Stakes, a grade 3 stakes race run in California.  After a handful of races, she retired as broodmare where she produced several thoroughbred offspring.  Laertes is her only warmblood offspring.  Acka Baba is by the immortal Ack Ack, a champion at any distance on any type of track.  He won both the Eclipse Award for Sprint Horse and the amazing title of Horse of the Year. The Blood Horse named him #44 of the Top 100 Racehorses of the 20th Century. Laertes takes after his grandsire in looks most of all, with his small, intelligent head, his powerful hindquarters, and his amazing, ground-covering stride. Ack Ack also produced the champion stallion Broad Brush, who went on to sire many successful track champions and whose stud fee today is $100,000. Acka Baba is one of the last Ack Ack daughters, meaning Laertes is an opportunity for athletic but older lines close up. Acka Baba's dam's sire is Raja Baba, a champion sprint horse of the 1970's.

At just 4 years of age, Laertes is being used for lessons for youth riders at the stable where he trains. He is also being used for trail riding in groups with mares. His kind disposition makes him an ideal riding horse. Everyone has a lot of fun riding Laertes!

Currently, his half brother Lordfurst is in training with an Olympic rider. Lordfurst's stud fee is $1500 (and his sale tag is $100,000). This young stallion is a stunning replica if his older brother, with unmatched talent!

Laertes is homozygous for the black gene.  He is tested negative and annually vaccinated for EVA.

We understand the joy and excitement of waiting for a new foal, and the heartbreak of losing one. Unlike most breeders, we want you to really be happy with your foal.  We offer a 7 day live foal guarantee, rather than the traditional "stands and nurses" or even "24 hour" guarantee. This guarantee is extended to 10 days for mares who foal prematurely (as outlined in the contract).

Laertes, shortly after his fourth birthday. Here he is being ridden by a youth rider.
This was her second time riding him. He stays so calm and doesn't try to take advantage
of her at all, even though there are mares loose in the arena with him.
